The humectant properties of this chemical make it a great addition to the dyer's studio. By pretreating fabric with a bath of urea dissolved in water, or by adding it to fibre-reactive dyes such as Procion MX, along with the correct setting agent such as Soda Ash (for Procion MX), it is possible to extend the effective time for the dye to bond to the fibre. This is especially important in non-immersion dye applications such as printing, stamping, painting or tie dyeing.
